General Information

This course is for Continuing Students Only.

The Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Education (Primary/ Early Years) course is a four-year full time course, or part time equivalent, which provides initial teacher education for people who wish to work in primary and early years school classroom settings with a Humanities major. The course is available via on-campus study only.

The successful completion of this course leads to provisional registration with the Queensland College of Teachers (QCT).

This course consist of six strands: Christian Studies, Education Studies, Early Years Studies, Curriculum Studies, Discipline Studies and Professional Experiences. Students must also fulfill other requirements including Student Teacher Embedded Practice (STEP), Professional and Community Experiences (PACE) and Senior First Aid, CPR and Lifesaving certification.

BArts/BEd Students, in discussion with their course coordinator, may complete a Humanities major in the following Humanities fields:

  • Biblical Studies
  • Drama
  • English
  • History
  • Studies in Society

Electives are also available in the areas of Arts, Health and Physical Education, and Technology.

Course Accreditations

  • CHC Education & Humanities courses are accredited by the Qld Minister for Education and by the Qld College of Teachers
  • CHC is approved under the Higher Education Support Act 2003
  • All undergraduate courses are approved for HECS-HELP/ Youth Allowance/Abstudy and Austudy
  • All postgraduate courses are approved for FEE-HELP
  • Courses available for overseas students are listed on the Commonwealth Register of Institutions & Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS)

Career Outcomes

  • Teacher – Primary/ Early Years (generally Prep through to Year 7) in the following areas: Drama, English, History and Health & Physical Education.

Professional Recognition

  • Provisional registration with the Queensland College of Teachers.
