General Information
The Diploma of Ministry - Social Justice is a one-year full time course, or part time equivalent that introduces students to a theology of social justice as well as strategies for social change. Students will develop a better understanding of the interrelationship between theology and practice, and the ability to critically reflect upon their roles in furthering the goal of social justice. Students will further be provided the opportunity to engage in preparation for either a local cross-cultural or overseas experience within practical operations affiliated with the School of Ministries.
The course begins by looking at some major theories for the meaning of 'justice' and seeks to develop some ideas about what 'social justice' is from a Christian perspective. It also seeks to develop a comprehensive, faith-based theo-ethic of justice that will contribute to the practice of justice. Finally, some key themes in social justice are addressed, such as class, gender inequality, poverty, international justice and the distribution of scarce resources.
CHC regards the Bible as the final referent particularly as it applies to defining and shaping Christian Ministry. In the light of this distinctive orientation, the personal, theological, and ministry dimensions of the course are integrated under the authority of Scripture as the revelation of God developed within theological reflection arising from Scripture and applied in ministry and mission.
Students who complete the Diploma of Ministry - Social Justice may later apply to enrol in the Bachelor of Ministry.
