General Information
The Graduate Certificate in Couple Counselling is a one semester fulltime course, or part time equivalent, which requires 40 credit points for completion. It is available on a part time basis only, in on campus and distance education modes. Please note that certain units can be completed oncampus only, in either Internal or Intensive modes (as offered). Please contact the School of Social Sciences Administration Office for further details.
The Graduate Certificate in Couple Counselling is designed to equip practising counsellors in the area of relationship counselling. As such, it is open only to applicants who have already completed undergraduate or postgraduate qualifications in counselling or a closely related discipline. The course includes two theoretical units designed to introduce students to major issues in couple counselling and one or more major models of couple therapy, as well as two units which focus on specific couple counselling skills and processes.
Entry to the course is based upon applicants having previously completed a degree in counselling or a closely related discipline, as the program assumes that students will already have a grasp of basic counselling practice and theory. Graduates from other fields with an interest in couple counselling are advised to apply for the Master of Counselling, with an emphasis in relationship counselling.
