Congratulations on your PhD David!

We asked newly-conferred PhD scholar, David Pohlmann, Are chaplaincy services effective in Queensland state schools? “Absolutely!” he declared.

David should know! He coordinates the Chaplaincy and Youth Studies degree programs in CHC’s School of Social Sciences. And he has spent the best part of the last decade investigating the role and effectiveness of chaplains.

His recently-completed PhD thesis draws on his experiences as a former state school teacher, chaplain and teacher educator, along with extensive studies in state schools Australia-wide.

Today David is a recognized expert on the subject of chaplaincy in state schools and is one of the most published academics in his field.

In the course of his doctorate, David developed a new model for effective chaplaincy. “I describe it as the Seven C’s model of state school chaplaincy,” he explained.
