Petra Research Project
Since 2006 CHC academics David Pohlmann and Garth Hentzschel with thirteen social science undergraduate research students from Christian Heritage College have conducted a community development research project in Flagstone (south west of Brisbane). This work was initiated after one of the authors had served as chaplain in a local secondary school.
It was noted early in the study that although Flagstone was becoming a growing residential area, there were insufficient infrastructure resources to adequately support such a suburb. The need for the further development of local community identity and harmony was also something that emerged from the research.
In the four years of this project, new ways of using existing community resources and infrastructure as well as new resources to be sourced have been identified. The project has recently come to the point of helping the local Flagstone community come together within the framework of a community association through which many of these issues may be addressed.
Recent press reports about the community association being formed following this research may be found here.
