STUDY COSTS

Please click the tabs above to find your course fees and note these are subject to annual review and may increase.

All courses at CHC have study costs that are determined by whether you are a domestic student or an international student, and whether you are in a fee-paying place or a Commonwealth supported place.

You can see what you study costs will be by selecting the relevant tab above.

Different payment options are available, and eligible students can access the Commonwealth government’s HELP scheme to defer the payment of their study costs.

A fee-paying place is a higher education place for which the cost of students’ education is funded entirely by students, and to which the Australian government does not contribute.

A Commonwealth supported place (CSP) is a higher education place for which the Australian government and students both pay a part of the cost of students’ education.

A domestic student is a student who is:

  • An Australian citizen, who will live and study in Australia for some of the course; or
  • A New Zealand citizen, who will live and study in Australia for the whole course; or
  • A permanent visa holder, who will live and study in Australia for the whole course.

An international student is a student who has come to Australia to enrol in a course of study under the provisions of a temporary visa issued by the Department of Home Affairs, such as a student visa, business visa or spousal visa.

International students are not eligible for HELP and must pay their fees in full by the beginning of each semester.

The Australian government’s HELP scheme (Higher Education Loans Program) enables eligible students to defer all or part of their study costs. Students in fee-paying places can access FEE-HELP, and students in Commonwealth supported places can access HECS-HELP.

To be eligible for HELP, you must be:

  • An Australian citizen and must study at least part of your course in Australia; or
  • A New Zealand Special Category Visa (SCV) holder; or
  • A permanent humanitarian visa holder.

New Zealand SCV and permanent humanitarian visa holders must also meet the residency requirements as outlined on the Australian government’s Study Assist website.

HELP loans are repaid through the Australian taxation system once students reach an income threshold. Further details are available on the Loan Repayment page of the Australian government’s Study Assist website.

Pass rate requirement

Students who access HELP must meet the pass rate requirement to remain eligible. This applies to students who begin a course on or after 1 January 2018 and apply for FEE-HELP, and students who begin a course on or after 1 January 2022 and apply for a Commonwealth supported place or HECS-HELP.

This means that once you have undertaken four or more units in an undergraduate certificate or diploma course, or eight or more units in a bachelor or above level course, you must pass at least 50 per cent of your total attempted units in order to remain eligible for a CSP, HECS-HELP or FEE-HELP. If you do not meet this pass rate requirement, you will have to pay your tuition fees upfront until you achieve the 50 per cent pass rate and regain eligibility for Commonwealth assistance.

If you have a low completion rate and can demonstrate that special circumstances have adversely affected your academic performance, these impacts can be taken into consideration.

Some units can have other costs associated with them, such as travel costs for placements, entrance fees for performances and fees for government tests. These costs will be declared at the beginning of the semester of enrolment and must be paid at that time. They cannot be deferred to HELP.

For full statements of unit fees, other costs and administrative fees that apply to your enrolment at CHC, download the Unit Costs and Administrative Fees documents from the Documents page of the CHC website.

The Australian government offers financial support for students. If you are an Australian student studying full-time, you may be eligible for Austudy, Youth Allowance or ABSTUDY. You can find out more about how Centrelink can help you to meet your living costs by visiting the Services Australia website.

Additional costs for international students include Overseas Student Health Care (OSHC) and living costs such as accommodation, food, transport, bills and entertainment. There will also be educational costs for any school-aged dependants that are travelling on your visa.

You must pay for OSHC for your whole course upfront. You can compare the costs of the different providers that are approved by the Australian government by accessing the OSHC Australia website. You can make your own OSHC arrangements with the provider of your choice, or CHC can make these arrangements for you through its preferred provider, Medibank Private.

You will need to budget around $500 per week for living costs while you are studying.

Each semester you will be issued with an invoice that lists the units in which you are enrolled, the student contribution amount or tuition fees (as applicable to your course) that are payable and the due date for payment.
