Bio

Dr. Johannes M. Luetz (BA/USA, MBA/Germany, Ph.D./Australia) is the Research Chair at CHC. He has consulted extensively for World Vision raising awareness of the growing effects of demographic, environmental and climate change on vulnerable communities in Asia, Africa and Latin America. He has an international reputation for education on sustainable development and has lived and worked across countries and continents.

He was raised in Sierra Leone and Switzerland, cares about poverty reduction, holistic education, justice and equity, and has researched and published conceptually and empirically in these areas. He has interdisciplinary research interests at the science-faith and science-policy interface. This interest has resulted in eight authored and edited books, including Beyond Belief (Springer, 2021), Innovating Christian Education Research (Springer, 2021), Reimagining Christian Education (Springer, 2018), and Major Reference Work Handbook on Climate Change Management (Springer, 2021), among others. He was also involved as author and Section Editor on Quality Education—Encyclopedia of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (Springer, 2020), the largest editorial project on sustainable development ever undertaken, and the world’s most comprehensive publication on the United Nations SDGs.

His Ph.D. research at UNSW Sydney has featured in national news and documentaries [Bolivia; Bangladesh; Maldives]. He has spoken at the UNSW Town & Gown annual signature dinner and has been a guest on ABC Radio National The Science Show. His research attracted grants, prizes, scholarships, awards and distinctions, including best thesis prize (2006), UNSW UIP Award (2009), UNSW ASPIRE Award (2012) and best paper awards (2017, 2018).

At CHC Dr Luetz coordinates the Bachelor of Human Services and its nested Diploma in Social Science. He also heads the Master of Social Science Leadership program and its nested Graduate Certificate in Social Science Leadership, which promote research and teaching on change leadership and thereby seek to give rise to equitable social transformation.

EDITORIAL LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE

Associate Editor on Vol. 4 (Quality Education) of the peer reviewed multivolume Encyclopedia of the UN Sustainable Development Goals—Transforming the World We Want, the largest editorial project on sustainable development ever undertaken, and the world’s most comprehensive publication on the United Nations SDGs. Comprising 17 volumes and 1,700 book chapters, the encyclopedia is part of Springer Nature’s award-winning World Sustainability Series.

 

CONFERENCES ORGANISED, CHAIRED OR CO-CHAIRED

Chaired the organising committees of two national Christian education conferences, Learning and Loves (2016) and Reason and Relevance (2019), and co-chaired one international symposium in Fiji, Pacific Adapt (2019).
