Bio

Scott is the Dean of Education at Morling College in Sydney and an adjunct lecturer at CHC. He has a background in secondary teaching, and he has also taught in other levels of schooling and at several universities. He has a strong interest in language education, particularly Chinese, and has undertaken extensive research in this field. His Master of Research and PhD focused on the links between culture and language in Chinese teaching in Australian schools. In recent years he has overseen Master of Educational Leadership programs at two Christian colleges.

Scott began his teaching career in government schooling with the purpose of sharing his faith in a non-Christian environment. He worked for nine years in two government schools before moving overseas with his family as partners with Interserve, a global mission organisation. He spent almost ten years studying language and teaching English at university level in East Asia. After returning to Australia Scott worked as Academic Director for a university preparation English language program. He then worked for the Department of Education in Sydney promoting Chinese language education in government schools and managing sister school relationships between Australia and China. Because of these experiences Scott is passionate about cross-cultural mission and helping others become interculturally competent so that people from diverse backgrounds can build meaningful friendships. His special interests include helping teachers think deeply about what it means to teach from a Christian perspective and to find the balance in being an expert educator and passionate witness at school.
