STUDY COSTS

All courses at CHC have study costs associated with them, and these are determined by whether you are a domestic student or an international student, and whether you are in a fee-paying place or a Commonwealth supported place.

You can see what you study costs will be by selecting the relevant tab above.

Different payment options are available, and eligible students can access the Commonwealth government’s HELP scheme to defer the payment of their study costs.

A fee-paying place is a higher education place for which the cost of students’ education is funded entirely by students, and to which the Australian government does not contribute.

At CHC, students who are enrolled in courses in Business, postgraduate Education, the Liberal Arts, Ministries and Social Sciences are in fee-paying places.

A Commonwealth supported place (CSP) is a higher education place for which the Australian government and students both pay a part of the cost of students’ education.

At CHC, Commonwealth supported places are available in the initial teacher education courses only.

A domestic student is a student who is:

  •  An Australian citizen, who will live and study in Australia for some of the course; or
  • A New Zealand citizen, who will live and study in Australia for the whole course; or
  • A permanent visa holder, who will live and study in Australia for the whole course.

An international student is a student who has come to Australia to enrol in a course of study under the provisions of a temporary visa issued by the Department of Home Affairs, such as a student visa, business visa or spousal visa.

International students are not eligible for HELP and must pay their fees in full by the beginning of each semester.

The Australian government’s HELP scheme (Higher Education Loans Program) enables eligible students to defer all or part of their study costs. Students in fee-paying places can access FEE-HELP, and students in Commonwealth supported places can access HECS-HELP.

To be eligible for HELP, you must be:

  • An Australian citizen and must study at least part of your course in Australia; or
  • A New Zealand Special Category Visa (SCV) holder; or
  • A permanent humanitarian visa holder.

New Zealand SCV and permanent humanitarian visa holders must also meet the residency requirements as outlined on the Australian government’s Study Assist website.

HELP loans are repaid through the Australian taxation system once students reach an income threshold. Further details are available on the Loan Repayment page of the Australian government’s Study Assist website.

Students who access FEE-HELP must also meet course progress requirements in order to remain eligible by achieving a pass rate of at least 50% of all units attempted. Students who do not meet this pass rate will lose their eligibility and must pay their fees in full by the beginning of each semester. Further details are available from CHC.

Some units can have other costs associated with them, such as travel costs for placements, entrance fees for performances and fees for government tests. These costs will be declared at the beginning of the semester of enrolment and must be paid at that time. They cannot be deferred to HELP.

For full statements of unit fees, other costs and administrative fees that apply to your enrolment at CHC, download the Unit Costs and Administrative Fees documents below:

Additional costs for international students include Overseas Student Health Care (OSHC) and living costs such as accommodation, food, transport, bills and entertainment. There will also be educational costs for any school-aged dependants that are travelling on your visa.

You must pay for OSHC for your whole course upfront. You can compare the costs of the different providers that are approved by the Australian government by accessing the OSHC Australia website. You can make your own OSHC arrangements with the provider of your choice, or CHC can make these arrangements for you through its preferred provider, Medibank Private.

You will need to budget around $500 per week for living costs while you are studying.

Each semester you will be issued with an invoice that lists the units in which you are enrolled, the student contribution amount or tuition fees (as applicable to your course) that are payable and the due date for payment.

There are different ways you can pay your student contribution amount or tuition fees, including:

  • in person at the Student Administration Office via cash, EFTPOS or credit card;
  • by phone via credit card;
  • direct deposit (contact CHC for account details);
  • the Pay Online facility on the CHC website.

If you are eligible for FEE-HELP and wish to access it to defer all or part of your fees, you must have submitted an Application for FEE-HELP form. Information regarding the process for applying for FEE-HELP is available from the Student Administration Office.
