Bio

I am a counsellor and psychotherapist and have been working with survivors of trauma for the past 14 years. I am also the Founder and Director of Bloom Asia – an anti-trafficking organisation that supports survivors of sex-trafficking with trauma therapy, vocational training and employment in SE Asia. I recently handed over the role of CEO to focus on building an integrated, evidence-based psychotherapy program based on ‘memory reconsolidation’ processes that are specifically nuanced for survivors of sex-trafficking. I have a BA in Psychology, an MA in Trauma Counselling, and see clients at my private psychotherapy practice in Brisbane, Australia and Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

I have been married for 35 years and have 2 gorgeous sons 28 and 25 years old, plus one a beautiful new daughter-in-law (I am still getting used to saying that!). Our family lived in Cambodia for ten years whilst establishing Bloom Asia which has given me a deep love for people (and food!) from other cultures. I love sunlight dappling through trees, the sound of babbling water, prayer every night as I drift off to sleep, dark chocolate truffles, snow balanced on pine needles, and picnics of cheese and red wine accompanied by views and a good book.

Many people ask me how can I focus on clients with such intense trauma all the time? I have found that nothing makes me feel more alive than journeying with others as they explore their inner world, and find freedom from their pain, and hope for the abundant life they were created for.

It will be my joy and privilege to walk with you all this semester.
