Bio

I recently concluded my role as a School Chaplain with Scripture Union QLD. In my role I supporting and empowered the next generation, this is something that has always been of importance to me. I loved my role as “Chappy” where I got not only support children in my school, but also their families, staff members at my school and the broader community of Bribie Island.

In 2022 year I begun the exciting and daunting PhD journey. I was lucky enough to receive a scholarship from the University of the Sunshine Coast. My PhD is in the field of Social Science and Social Geography and my topic is about intercultural competence development in young people. Feel free to ask me any questions – I am very passionate about this topic. I have a passion for writing and discovering truth. As Christian academics I believe we have a responsibility to understand and share God’s truth with others.

Previously, I worked with Christian Mission Organisation Youth with a Mission (YWAM) where I have travelled the world working on both short and longer term development projects, training and teaching students, mission adventures with teens, and most recently worked with YWAM Medical ships in Papua New Guinea as the Community Engagement officer and Biblical Studies Leader. Throughout this course, my focus will be to use case examples from different areas in this field to help you identify what your work could look like in the future.

Personal Testimony:

I am passionate about people and my faith. For me, this has meant focusing on community engagement and social services in my professional and volunteering experience. As a Christian, my work has always meant more than just “work”. My beliefs inform my sense of justice, empathy and fairness. I’m passionate about teaching a range of topics in social sciences and my hope is to share my passion and enthusiasm with you.

It is hard to choose just one but this favourite Bible verse but this one in Micah inspires my personal and professional life.

Micah 6:8

He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.

I also got married last year to an amazing man Michael. I have been study and working at CHC since 2012 and most of that time was know as Wendy Nelson! So if you here or see that name its me!
